The defending champion Abbey Park Eagles are 10-0 so far this season and their success is as much about remembering what got them to the top of the mountain ast year as it is about finding themselves again.
"Abbey Park Eagles coach Julie Burr understands there are similarities between this year’s team and the one that won provincial high school AAA gold last spring.
She just prefers not to talk about them.
“We have tried not to make too many comparisons between the teams,” said Burr, whose Eagles completed their second straight undefeated Halton senior girls’ volleyball league campaign Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over the Garth Webb Chargers.
“It’s been important for myself and (assistant coach) Christy Holmes to really understand this season is a different team, to not reference what we did last year. From the beginning of the season, we’ve focused on who we are as a group this year and what we need to do as a group this year.”
This year’s edition of the Eagles is 10-0 overall in league play, winning 20 of 22 sets. Last season, Abbey Park was 13-0 overall and 26-3 in sets. The team is still led by former Ontario beach volleyball champion partners Tori Gorrell and Sarah Williams."
